Suzuki summary:
Suzuki Swift driver P-G Andersson leads the Rally Sweden at the end of leg one, following a thrilling three-way fight for supremacy with fellow Swedes Patrick Sandell (Renault Clio) and Peter Zachrisson (Suzuki Ignis). In the afternoon, P-G pulled away from Sandell after setting four fastest stage times throughout the day.
Two Suzuki drivers battled for the title of fastest non-Swede: Englishman Guy Wilks and Estonian Urmo Aava, making his debut in a Suzuki Swift.

News from the leading Suzuki driver:
P-G Andersson (1st in JWRC): “It’s been a very good fight today although I must admit that I was surprised at the pace of Patrick Sandell. I always thought he would be fast, but not that fast! I have been pushing to the maximum all day, so I am sure that he has been pushing at more than the maximum. The stages and the car have been perfect today: all we have done are some small set-up changes.

Other news from Suzuki:
Guy Wilks faced a big battle with Urmo Aava for fourth place over the longest stage of the rally, the 39.95 slippery kilometres of Vargasen. But the Englishman was not so happy with the set-up of his Swift, so the identical car of Urmo Aava took the place.
I’m not sure why we were slower than we thought we would be,” said Wilks. “But we will be pushing very hard tomorrow to get onto the podium!”

News from “Monster” Tajima:
I am very happy with the speed and reliability of our cars. Seven Suzukis started the rally this morning and seven have finished, proving how easy our cars are to drive in these difficult conditions. P-G has been very quick today, but it has been an exciting fight and I am sure it will continue like this for the rest of the rally!
