Suzuki summary:
Suzuki Swift driver P-G Andersson has extended his lead over Patrick Sandell (Renault Clio) today, setting six out of seven fastest stage times. The only stage he did not win went to local man Peter Zachrisson – in a Suzuki Ignis. Estonian Urmo Aava, in another Swift, completes the podium. But Guy Wilks was not so lucky, hitting problems in the morning that affected him throughout the day.
News from the leading Suzuki driver:
P-G Andersson (1st in JWRC): “Today I had a bigger gap over Patrick Sandell, so I felt more confident and I was able to control my advantage. The car has been perfect but it is still a very tight battle – all it takes is one mistake for the rally to be turned on its head. So tomorrow I will need to keep all my concentration…”
Other news from Suzuki:
Guy Wilks had a dramatic start to leg two, when a driveshaft came out of his car before the start of the first stage this morning. He completed the first stage with one-wheel drive before repairing the shaft in advance of the day’s second stage. Pushing hard to make up lost time, Guy unfortunately went off halfway through the stage and lost 20 minutes. He arrived back at service with just seconds to spare before being too late to remain in the rally! “It was a close call,” said Guy. “Our goal now is to get to the finish and get one or maybe two points, which I believe is possible.”
News from “Monster” Tajima:
“I am very happy with P-G’s performance: now he has to take care and just drive normally to the end. However, I feel very sorry about the problems that afflicted Guy. It is equally important for him to keep calm and keep going: he can still score points that will be very valuable for the championship.”
