Suzuki Swift driver Guy Wilks is in a clear lead of the Junior World Championship classification at the end of leg one in Argentina. Wilks had a fast but trouble-free day to win six out of eight stages, and the Englishman now carries an advantage of nearly five minutes into leg two. His team mate P-G Andersson was not so lucky, hitting a large rock on the first stage of the day that broke the front suspension.
News from the leading Suzuki driver:
Guy
Wilks (1st in JWRC): “It’s been a good day, but conditions have been quite difficult. On the first couple of stages we had rain and patches of fog, which meant that we had to be quite careful. Now that we have a bit of a lead I am not pushing as hard as I could: there is plenty of speed left in the car. The Swift has been on top form and I’d like to keep it that way! Anything can still happen though, as there is a huge variety of conditions on these roads. You have to be prepared for anything.”
Other news from Suzuki:
P-G Andersson’s rally came to a premature end just six kilometres into the first stage, when the Swede could not avoid hitting a large rock that broke his car’s front suspension.
“ There was nothing we could do, said the 2004 Junior World Rally Champion. “The rock must have been flicked up by the car in front, as it was right on the line. It’s just one of those freak things.”
News from “Monster” Tajima:
“I would like to congratulate Guy for a faultless drive so far in difficult conditions, having taken the lead from the start. He has once again demonstrated the speed and reliability of the Swift, although he is not pushing at the limit. Of course we are very disappointed that P-G hit a rock so early in the rally: otherwise I feel sure that he could have been challenging for the lead as well. There is still a very long way to go, so all of our team needs to stay concentrated. ”
